LET 'S GO SKIING
as of September 7, 2008
Welcome to the home ski page of GK Adventures, a community based group which organizes an annual Colorado ski trip during the Public School Winter break in February. Initially this outing began as a senior youth church group in 2000 with 11 of us going to Blue Mountain, Ontario for a weekend of skiing. Since then the trip has been opened and promoted throughout the greater Detroit metropolitan area. Over the past 9 years, over 1,000 people have participated in this trip. Due to our numbers, we're able to negotiate some excellent deals on room rates, airline and lift tickets.
In 2009, the February Winter ski trip will be held between Sunday, February 15th to Saturday, February 21st. Again the trip will be centered on the resorts of Summit County, Colorado. The County is approximately 75 miles west of Denver and is the home of the following resorts: Arapahoe, Breckenridge, Copper and Keystone. Also within 40 minutes of the County are the resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek. Lodging will be at the Comfort Suites in Dillon, Colorado. Round trip air will be provided by two different air carriers (Northwest, and United). Flight options are listed under a separate tab along with the number of seats available
As we've done in the past, the 2009 trip is sold as a package which includes round trip airfare, six nights of hotel lodging, five days of lift tickets and a pizza dinner! Package costs are based on occupancy rates of four people to a room; premiums increase as the room occupancy decreases. Also, as each resort charges a different daily rate for lift tickets, the combination of resorts you select will affect overall pricing. The package can be modified to those who want to ski less than 5 days or not at all. If you have frequent flyer points available, then this package can be priced without airfare. To reserve a spot on this year's trip, you'll need to forward a complete registration form (see tab on left) plus a deposit of $100 per person. Address the check to GK Adventures, and send to 31466 Old Cannon, Beverly Hills, Mi. 48025.
As five of the six resorts offer a majority of their runs which are ranked either as beginner or of intermediate difficulty, this trip is very attractive to families. These same resorts offer the moguls and bowls to challenge the more advanced skiers, while offering extensive terrain parks for the snowboarders. On our first evening in Summit County, everyone is encouraged to attend and meet one another at the annual pizza dinner; during the week we organize a snow shoe outing, and a trip to the hot springs. Prior to leaving for Colorado, we hold 2 general meetings to discuss lift ticket packages and to distribute trip information.
